Wondeful and healthy. I used pinto instead of kidney beans as I've read pintos take more nutritional value. I used diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce and added two teaspoons of diced garlic. I cut the cumin to avoid the "chili" comments a few had shared. I also used craven broth instead of h2o. I served this over dark-brown rice, again because it'southward a whole grain, and it was so yummy. Swell recipe that you tin can throw together in a few minutes and allow to melt all solar day. I did 8 hours on low and then it was on warm for about 2 hours. It was perfect.

Splendid- I was then happy with the fashion this turned out! I used 2 cans of tomato plant sauce, 1 can of diced tomatoes, 2 cans of beans (not-drained) and i additional can of beans (drained). Don't add the water- permit the liquid from the beans and the tomatoes be the broth! I cooked this on the stove in a large pot in about an 60 minutes and a half- no issues. Also- await to add together the cabbage until you're virtually halfway washed, and definitely add together almost a full head of cabbage. This was great and nosotros will be enjoying this again- thanks!

Thanks for sharing this recipe!!! I've made it over and once more since I kickoff stumbled upon it, and my whole family loves it. I'm giving it 5 out of 5 stars because it'southward a great concept and it lead me to a new family favorite; but in my stance it needs a few adjustments. The first time I made information technology I followed the recipe exactly and we found it to exist a niggling overpowering. Since then, I make it with the post-obit changes: I apply half the cumin, half the pepper, ane sixteen oz. can of kidney beans, ane fifteen oz. can of love apple sauce, 2 14 oz. cans of chicken broth, and no h2o. I too added 1/ii tsp. each of garlic powder and onion pulverization. This suits our tastes much improve and makes the soup alot less chili-like. I also exit out the oil because I don't see a need for the added calories/fat, and have found that leaving it out doesn't accept anything away from the soup. To brand this recipe in alot less fourth dimension: Fry the hamburger and onion in a large soup pot until browned, drain, and put back in the aforementioned pot. Add all of the other ingredients to the pot and bring to a boil. Once boiling, plough the oestrus downwards to med-low and cover with a hat. Simmer for 1/2 hour to 45 minutes or until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Serve and savour :)
12/30/2005
The soup was very tastey. It does remind me of a thin chili. Next fourth dimension I beleive I will only employ two beef bouillon cubes. I likewise learned you may desire to add cabbage half manner through cooking fourth dimension. Then information technology is not over cooked.
06/fifteen/2007
We really enjoyed this soup. It tastes a lot similar the cabbage beef soup at Shoneys restuarant. My husband had never heard of cabbage beef soup before, but he really actually loved. I did add together some garlic pulverisation when frying the meat, and I also cut up some celery and dropped it in equally well.
10/24/2005
My husband and I both loved this soup. I only used 2 cans of tomato sauce and substituted the tertiary tin with a tin can of diced tomatoes. I did not add the water at all and did non bleed the beans. It fabricated a thick flavorful soup which I cooked in the crock pot.
02/14/2006
Chili beans were a hit in this recipe. I besides used beefiness base instead of cubes to cutting downward on the sodium. Ground turkey made this even lower fat; a dandy style to add together some cruciferous vegetables to your nutrition! Healthy and delicious!
04/06/2008
This did seem a bit similar chili with cabbage in it. I used ranch mode beans and black beans every bit well as a fourteen oz. tin can of diced tomatoes and xvi oz. of tomato sauce. I added garlic to the beef and reduced the cumin a scrap.
02/19/2007
I gave this a v even tho i alter a coupel thing, i did not have kidney beans, but i used fresh green beans (my kids love those) fabricated a double batch hoping to freeze some simply it did not last, brought some to work and it was gone!! kids loved it likewise definatly make once again
07/17/2006
this is very good. Very much like the one I make. I add a large tin of tomatoes including juice, the can full of h2o, two stalks of celery, and two 8 oz can of Tomato sauce.
03/xx/2012
I made this last dark in the crock pot and it was succulent! I added polish sausage, and used lean turkey vs. ground beef, two cans of light kidney beans, 2 cans of chopped tomoatoes, some fresh garlic clove, garlic powder, season salt, and I used an unabridged caput of chopped cabbage and put the cabbage in last so that it would not become over cooked. I also did not add together the water, because cabbage produces water when it cooks. I am giving this 5 stars because it was very flavorful and healthy using the ground turkey and light ingredients. I will mail service pictures.
12/22/2010
I left out the salt and cumin. Because information technology had bouillon cubes and canned sauce and beans, information technology already had enough of salt. The cumin made information technology taste like chili which was not what I wanted. Overall it had a dainty color and taste.( Apply dark red kidney beans for color ). I too served with chopped cilantro . Those who like cilantro thought information technology a fantastic addition. This is a low price and satisfying meal. If I make information technology the twenty-four hours before..any fat rises and solidifies on top and can easily be removed for a low fat repast. Great with cornbread.
11/05/2007
This is nice hearty soup for a cool autumn day. Even though I didn't use cumin, information technology yet tastes similar chili west/cabbage to me. I used a lot of the suggested modification: two cans of tomato sauce, can of diced tomatos-not tuckered, a footling minced garlic. My bullion cubes were well-nigh half dozen years sometime, and so I used a tin of beef broth instead. I browned the beef and added all to the crock pot nearly 7 and it was on depression all day until we ate at vi.
04/08/2010
Made this over again today (04/25/ten) as nosotros all but loved information technology. I at present telephone call it my Stuffed Cabbage soup as I have also thrown in some leftover rice--ane/2 to 3/4 cup. And with the Paprika and other seasonings information technology really does taste a scrap like blimp cabbage. I always saute onions (usually add celery also) until a scrap of browning occurs and then add the beef. Once the beefiness is drier and brown I add together the paprika and cumin and let them toast a scrap before adding all the liquid. REALLY GOOD!!!! Just made this for dinner on a rather blustery spring day and it was very expert. I made some changes like adding 3 carrots chopped, a 28 oz tin of crushed tomatoes, 1 fourteen.5 oz tin tomato sauce, 1/2 to ane tsp basil, ane/2 to 1 tsp oregano, ane tblsp sweet paprika, a few bay leaves, 1 tsp garlic powder (didn't accept fresh) and a good sprinkling of cayenne pepper equally nosotros similar a bit of zip. As well used Jamison's Beefiness soup Base and most 18 oz of beef stock. I then rinsed the tomato and Bean cans and added that water to the pot,--super thick and smokey delicousness. Husband had ii big bowls!
03/28/2011
I've made this succulent soup since 2007. I really liked the cabbage beef soup that Shoney'south offers on the buffet & so used this site'south great tool to type in ingredients you lot're looking to combine and to my great delight this recipe comes up AND a review mentioning this soup tastes like the Shoney's soup! JACKPOT! I took the reviewers suggestion of adding celery to soften up the season and also thought, hummmm, some chopped green pepper would as well be squeamish & the soup turned out Yummy! I beloved this site!!! P.Due south. I likewise found others suggestions great - to substitute beefiness broth or stock for the too salty burgoo cubes.
01/22/2009
Yummy! I didn't think it would plough out then delicious. I always have hesitations when I await at the ingredients and see things we don't normally eat. Or I question how well they mesh. If you are the same style, make this recipe. It was so elementary. Easy clean upwards. And the best part, my kids liked it. Sidenote: I cooked on high for 4 hours. Temp is too hot, it browned the beans and some of cabbage. I would suggest cooking on low for 6-8 hours. I likewise used xv oz. tomato sauce. It needs 24 ounces.
02/23/2011
Started this from memory, so had a few changes. (I had looked at a similar recipe prior to making this.) Don't think my changes were plenty to change the basic recipe. I had already chopped light-green peppers, onions and celery and had them sauteing in butter before I could get my daughter off the figurer long enough to let me check the recipe! I used a quart jar of my canned crushed tomatoes and i tin can kidney beans. (What I had on hand.) Used bullion granules and left out the salt. Other recipe called for 2 cups cabbage. Really glad I used the 5 that this recipe called for! May try 2 cans beans next time, but hubby and I think the cabbage is the star in this recipe. (He didn't even know he likes cabbage! He does now! LOL) Left cabbage a little crunchy, and it was nifty! I also did this on the stovetop rather than the irksome cooker. My 12 yr old picky eater wouldn't even Effort information technology! (Typical!) My 9 twelvemonth erstwhile had 2 bowls and came back for a tertiary and 4th afterward! Hubby and I had ii BIG bowls each! Absolutely delishes!!!!! Give thanks you for a bully recipe!!!!! Edit: I made this once again without the green pepper and celery. Must say that we liked information technology much better with the original changes I made. Yet an splendid recipe as is. Simply suit to adjust your families tastes.
11/29/2008
The best slow cooker soup I have ever made. Cheers for the recipe. I pretty much followed all the directions but used gear up made beef stock with roast onion instead of stock cubes. To upwards the vege content, I added frozen peas and corn in the last 4 hours of cooking fourth dimension. The cumin added a unique taste and I amped information technology up with a dusting of chilli powder. I am going to make this again and once again. Hearty, wholesome and healthy too.
12/thirteen/2012
Fantastic soup, i of my favorites on this site! Very adaptable to tweeks. I practise not use the oil when cooking the beef and onion and I do add 2 cloves of garlic to the mix. I employ beef broth instead of water and thus exercise not use the bouillon, a 28 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes crushed well instead of love apple sauce and include a stalk of celery diced. I similar it cooked in the slow cooker and do so for well-nigh 3 hours on loftier. When the cabbage is tender I adjust seasoning to taste and add a lilliputian bouillon then instead of salt for a deeper beefiness flavor. I like the flavour the cumin adds but I don't retrieve it tastes like chili because to me chili needs chili powder. Another plus well-nigh this soup is that it freezes well.
01/22/2011
This soup was awesome - my husband couldn't believe how skillful it was and salubrious too! My mom stopped by and had a bowl and at present she wants the recipe too. I like that information technology is made with tomato-based goop instead of chicken broth. My changes: Instead of kidney beans I used black beans (I had them on hand), I subbed spaghetti sauce instead of tomato sauce (once again what I had on manus), and added some chopped sweet red peppers. Information technology turned out thick, filling and succulent!
12/23/2010
Very good! The pickiest men in the family LOVED it especially (which says alot)! :)
ten/11/2005
My married man said this was the all-time cabbage soup he has eaten! I did employ one can kidney beans and 1 tin ranch style beans. I also forgot to use the cumin. I seasoned my basis beef with flavour all and I used i whole onion chopped. My kids and I also loved this soup! Volition make over again! I also added a tin of diced tomatoes and pressure level cooked information technology for iii mintues. This was a 20 infinitesimal meal for u.s.a.!!!!
12/31/2010
Pulled this together with what I had on hand. Used one 15 oz. can tomato sauce and chopped three plum tomatoes, 1 can pinto and ane tin black (our favorites), substituted beef goop for the water and bouillon. Used a whole onion. Followed previous suggestions and cutting the cumin down to 1t, used 1t of garlic powder, and chopped a whole head of cabbage. Looking at some like recipes I added 3T apple cider vinegar and 2T sugar at the end to better the flavor. Last thing, I would definitely put the cabbage in at the very offset. Information technology cooks perfectly and melts in your mouth! Yummy.
03/02/2008
Very good. I fabricated this on the stove height instead of in the crockpot.
01/17/2010
Ohhh, is this expert! I don't change recipes normally, simply I had already cooked downwardly a chuck roast (in water) and cut information technology in pieces. I was going to make a vegetable beef soup, but at the terminal minute I thought I'd check my saved recipes and institute this. I had a cabbage that needed to be used up so I made this. Similar others I did not use the cumin - we merely had chili so I didn't want the soup to taste like that. I had only a modest can of tomato sauce, but I had plenty of stewed tomatoes I put up this fall. So I used them instead merely I'chiliad positive the soup would sense of taste just as skillful using the tomato sauce as written. I added the cabbage half way through. Information technology is and then good and so nutritious! With the tomatoes, the beans and of course, the cabbage it's very good for you! I recommend this to anyone and everyone. I am bringing some to my mom and to my sis to attempt; I know they'll love it - I'm so sure they'll similar that I accept printed off the recipe to give them when I requite them the soup! Thank you for this delicious recipe! (it'southward a very easy soup to make and is very "forgiving" to changes you may need to make based on the contents of your pantry!)
01/18/2013
My husband loved this. I added 2 cups more water as we like our soup a lilliputian more juicy. I also added a nuance of Worchestershire and a tablespoon of crushed cherry pepper for a bit of zing and spice. I but made our second pot of this last night. A large two thumbs up for this cabbage soup recipe. The best office nearly it, it'southward even better the 2nd twenty-four hours.
01/06/2015
Great and elementary recipe! I slightly modified information technology by using two chicken breasts (which I lightly seared for ~7 minutes before adding to the slow cooker), and I used 12oz tomato sauce and 12oz chipotle sauce which gave it a HUGE boost of flavor. I as well put the cabbage in after half dozen hours so information technology was only in the cooker for almost two hours which made it not soggy at all. I'll exist sure to make information technology once again!
01/11/2015
Love this recipe. I had to change a few things similar, black beans instead of kidney beans. A scattering of carrots. I had no cumin, but I added nearly a TBSP of cayenne (I dear spice) I added a can of corn and virtually 1 TBSP of fresh parley and 1 TBSP of cilantro. I took the communication of previous reviews and didn't add the cabbage until well-nigh ii hours until I needed it to be done. And yes this recipe does taste like chili with cabbage...just without the quilt of eating as well much cerise meat and eating good for you filling vegetables.
10/16/2011
This was Excellent!! I did however make some changes. I used ground Turkey, one tin Kidney beans, one can Garbanzo beans, 3/4 cup Matchstick Carrots, 32 oz low sodium beef broth instead of bouillon cubes, 20 oz love apple sauce, xiv oz of chunky tomatoes, i originally used 5 cups of cabbage simply half way through eating the soup I added more cabbage. Then next time I call back I would do similar 8 cups of cabbage...
05/03/2010
A comforting and filling soup!! Yummy! I did want to annotation, all the same, that this recipe with fill a 6qt dull cooker to the brim! If you lot have a smaller slow cooker, yous'll need to reduce the recipe proportionately!
01/22/2011
Actually really good!! Didnt change a affair and thought it was neat! Perfect for a cold winter'southward night!!!
01/18/2011
I really enjoyed this! I replaced the beef with MS veggie crumbles, and replaced the beef bouillon with chicken bouillon (what I had bachelor), but I don't recollect those changes were very desperate from the original recipe. Hearty, yet not heavy, filling, and you can feel proficient about it. I'm sure I will exist making this frequently!
11/16/2004
This was very good, although I did make ane modification. Since I had only canned chili beans in the cupboard, I used those instead of plain kidney beans. The soup was rich, flavorful and a striking with my hubby, who was skeptical when I told him I was making cabbage soup. The cabbage added a little bit of crunch to the soup.
03/07/2011
I have made this Soup iii times already and it but keeps getting better and better every time! Of form information technology always tastes better the side by side day afterward all of the flavors take molded together, but this is absolutely the BEST cabbage soup recipe that I have e'er tried! This is definately a fave in my house and volition be for a long time to come! EXCELLENT chore on this one!!!!
11/05/2012
We dearest this soup
01/09/2015
This was a huge hit on new years day. Doubled the recipe for lots of left overs! Thank you Nancy!
03/xvi/2011
Nosotros loved this! I accept a picky hunny just he told me i'd amend make this every calendar week! lol :) thanks for the recipe!
01/12/2009
Entire family unit loved. Will make once again. Fabricated exactly as shown, fabricated no changes.
11/10/2005
This is one of our favorite things to eat! I use an entire caput of cabbage, decrease the lycopersicon esculentum sauce and add 2 cans of diced tomatoes, celery, and substitute i can of kidney beans with a tin of navy beans for a little variety. WE Honey THIS SOUP!
09/21/2010
We are really enjoying this soup. I made this every bit directed, except I did cut the cumin back to 1 tsp and didn't bother using the vegetable oil (my beefiness rendered enough fatty). I cooked this in the crockpot on depression for vi hours. The only change I might make next fourth dimension is to use one 15 oz. can of tomato sauce and one 15 oz. can of diced tomatoes, rather than simply tomato sauce. Thanks.
01/03/2015
The starting time fourth dimension I made it every bit it is chosen and we loved information technology. The second time I added cubed sweetness potato and it was even better. I am wondering about changing the beans to garbanzo, but haven't tried that however. Fifty-fifty my seven year old ate it up!
03/29/2010
I thought this soup was fantabulous! I beloved soup, though, and I occasionally like cabbage if information technology is spiced well (and I got it on sale---its a very cheap and filling food!). My family was non so pleased---it smelled upwardly the house, LOL. And then I am the sole reviewer here as no i else would fifty-fifty endeavor information technology. I am giving it iv stars non because of the scent (cabbage is a stinky vegetable, no one's fault there) simply because of the sodium. I simply put two beef cubes in and only one tsp of table salt. I did add together a couple of dashes of hot sauce for season. I also a used a jar of pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce because that is what I had on hand and I added more h2o.
01/ten/2009
This was good. To those who said cutting the cumin, I disagree. It needed it for flavor. I started out not using it, and and so added information technology later. Simply eyeballed it, didn't measure. I don't recall this tasted like chili, chili has chili pulverization. I did add garlic with the browning meat and tossed some in the pot too, we honey garlic. I used white cantinelli beans (just a personal preferance). I would recommend cutting the cabbage sparse. Instead of the 2 cups of water and bouillon cubes, I used a can of 99% fatty free and reduced sodium beef broth. Does the same thing, but cuts down the sodium and time. I also threw the cabbage in with 3 hours left to cook (cooked on low for 8 hours) - I merely did this because another reviewer said the cabbage would exist over cooked. I am wondering if I could take only followed the directions in the recipe. The posted picture doesn't look anything like mine. You could run into the cabbage. Served with some crusty staff of life, this was a proficient salubrious dinner for a cold nighttime! Cheers for the recipe.
02/17/2010
Dear this soup! I didn't employ any oil. Since I didn't accept enough tomato sauce, I used ane can of tomato sauce and ane can diced tomatoes so added a scrap more water. All the other flavors are perfect and we really enjoyed it! The cabbage is a great addition to this chili-like soup. Thanks for the recipe! :)
09/20/2011
This was skillful, and did make plenty for left overs. The only thing is it's a bit salty. I had to add together a Tbs of saccharide and only put 3 boulion cubes. Almost gustation like chili, just with cabbage in it.
12/28/2008
I fabricated this soup for my son and me...and he told me he didn't like cabbage. This is now one of his favorites. Tastes better than my chili.
01/20/2011
Delicious! My husband claims to despise cabbage, but never fifty-fifty knew information technology was in in that location and loved it! I just used i tin of beans, deleted the cumin, added more than stock and a bunch of garlic. I also simmered it on stove for a few hours. Very versatile.
03/09/2015
This recipe is really yummy! instead of ground beef I used ground turkey and instead of beef broth, I used chicken. It turned out great!
09/28/2011
I changed this quite a bit - used sausage instead of beef, and black beans instead of kidney - only holy moo-cow, it'south wonderful!! I don't retrieve I'd have liked it equally much with merely ground beefiness, but the basic recipe is simply fantastic. (I also simply cooked information technology in a soup pot, since the twenty-four hour period slipped away from me and I didn't have 4 hours to look for the crock pot.)
03/09/2005
This is a really delicious soup. I didn't have any lycopersicon esculentum sauce, simply instead used a combination of tinned tomatoes and fresh ones, and it worked fine.
xi/11/2011
Fantastic! As soon equally my husband and I finished it all I went right out to get more cabbage to brand another pot!
04/23/2005
This soup turned out amazing! It was wonderiful for the wintertime. We cooked information technology in our tiresome cooker all day. Information technology tasted similar chili merely, had cabbage in information technology. Nosotros loved it. I will definetly be making this one every winter.
01/05/2009
This one is great. Nosotros did make a few changes, calculation blackness eyed peas (a southern thing) and a cup of tomato juice in place of a cup of water (more season). It turned out actually well, especially with a side of cornbread.
02/06/2011
As others have written, it is like chili with cabbage merely information technology is pretty tasty, and very easy to prepare.
03/25/2011
I take made this one many times. Instead of love apple sauce I utilize a can of crushed tomatoes. I also add some chili powder. Consider it a healthy chili. Top with cheese and onions. Cornbread on the side.
07/01/2011
Hubby doesn't like this anymore. I similar it, but exist sure to use ground beef, not the Morningstar Farms Crumbles!
10/05/2005
This dish is absolutely delicious. Information technology does make a lot, just I separated into 10 portions, and froze it.
02/27/2009
Cooking Mama, really has a winner with this recipe. It was perfect on a cold winter day and the flavour was fantastic. I used ii 16 oz cans of unsalted canned beefiness stock in lieu of the bouillion cubes. Also used freshly ground pepper from the grinder. Excellent recipe, very tasty. The slow cooker does all the work for this in 4 hours. Perfect hearty soup!
11/03/2008
Nifty soup, I will endeavour other veggies also beans side by side time. I retrieve and then much more tin can be done with the soup beside a bean. Perhaps a can of corn, veg-all, or fresh zucchini.
01/06/2011
I wanted it to be done in less than four hours, so I cooked this on the stove instead of a crock pot. I used dried beans (soaked overnight, and and so cooked for simply nigh thirty minutes and then measured into 32oz and added to the soup). I feel there was too many beans and not enough beef or cabbage. Side by side time I would cut the amount of beans in half and double the cabbage. Also, the cabbage should exist added with only an hr or ii of cooking time left so that it keeps a nice texture/flavor. I only used about a tsp of the cumin and added some thyme, marjoram, sage, and parsley. I served this with the herb breadstuff from this site and it was tasty! It made a lot of soup, too! perfect for leftovers.
02/07/2011
This was really practiced. Even my fussy 8 year old liked it. Basically he volition only eat broccoli cheese soup or chili, no other soups. Personally my family unit would like information technology with more of the tasty broth. I also thought I would like some peeled chopped potato in it. It does hint at tasting similar a chili and I might consider cutting dorsum on the cumin sometimes also. Very yummy comfort food. Ohh I also did not have a 24oz tomato sauce so I used a 28 oz can Pastene basis tomatoes.
01/01/2015
A tasty, sneaky manner to get some veggies in
01/02/2008
Definitely volition be my New year meal from now on! Every year I struggle to observe a palatable manner to swallow my cabbage and blackness eyed peas on NYD. The only changes I made were using black eyed peas instead of kidney beans, using 16 oz tomato sauce and 16 oz canned chopped tomatoes, using beef broth instead of water, and using only 2 bouillion cubes. My guests loved it and so did I.
12/12/2009
This crecipe is and so like shooting fish in a barrel and so filling. My hubby almost finish the whole soup by his own...
01/01/2007
I, too, was looking for a quick alternative when I craved stuffed cabbage rolls, just this failed. It is Chili with Cabbage & is not something I will make once again.
03/19/2012
I actually like this. Made mine with spagetti sauce (because that is what I had), left out the water, beef bouillion cubes, and cumin), fabricated if more of a chili. Want to effort it adjacent with the cumin and tomato sauce
01/17/2011
My husband and son love this. I substitute beefiness broth for the water and beef bouillon cubes.
02/28/2010
Very good, merely two bug: 1- tastes kinda like Chili; Will read suggestions First next time and omit the Cumin 2- a little less "soupy" than I'm used to for a soup, maybe I wont drain the beans next time.....
03/01/2008
Just wonderful! I generally hate to alter recipes so rate them as I don't find it fair to the recipe submitter. I can only imagine how great this is without the alterations that I made! With that being said, I made a only a few minor tweaks as followed: I merely used 1 tin can of Northern beans (I don't like kidney beans), nixed the cumin, and used 1 regular can of tomato plant sauce and i regular can of petite diced tomatoes. So again, no major changed in my stance. Nosotros ate this for dinner and I served with yeast rolls. I'grand quite sure this will exist one of those dishes that's even 10x better the next day. Fantastic recipe; cheers for sharing! :)
xi/thirteen/2006
My family unit- including the 8 and half-dozen year olds- eats annihilation. Artichokes, saurkraut, no problem. We honey new flavors. But it's a few minutes before suppertime, and I'thousand scrambling to make peanut butter and jelly for supper. This is the first time that I've fabricated an allrecipes.com recipe that was only straight upwards TERRIBLE!! I checked and double checked the recipe, and I did it right... information technology just doesn't gustatory modality expert.
01/xiii/2009
I loved this!! Very hearty. I used 1/two cup of lentils instead of the beans.
03/xiv/2010
Very tasty! I made this soup for my sick fiance and as information technology was cooking, he exclaimed, "Yuck! Information technology smells similar cabbage in here, I detest cabbage!" A few hours after - he was demolishing the soup. I believe he ate all of information technology except one bowl; my bowl! I used crushed tomatoes rather than love apple sauce which made a very thick base of operations for the soup. the reason I have to knock information technology down a peg is considering it was very hard to fit all the ingredients in the slow cooker. I have an average to large size cooker and I could barely get the lid on with all the cabbage. Information technology managed to melt down a bit only it was touch and go for a bit.
03/01/2005
Easy, simple to make and great tasting.
11/08/2009
Splendid! My kids dear this, they ask me to brand it all the fourth dimension! Hard to believe, especially since they normally don't like cabbage. They choose this over my regular chili! I similar it because the ingredients are very low in fat and it'southward a very nutritious meal. Serve with fresh Italian or French breadstuff. The only change I brand is omitting the vegetable oil when cooking the meat, information technology's non necessary. I usually use ground beef, only I'm sure you can use ground turkey to keep it existent low in fat. Relish! Even if yous aren't a cabbage fan, you will love this!
04/17/2010
I wasn't a fan of this recipe.
12/12/2008
I fabricated this because I had a small head of cabbage in my fridge that I needed to use upwardly. This soup is very good, only it is basically chili with cabbage in it. I as well constitute it to exist very salty but still skillful. I halved the recipe merely the one thing I did change was the love apple sauce... I used one can of diced tomatoes and one minor can of lycopersicon esculentum sauce. This could account for the chili similar texture... simply either way it would still taste like chili. My boyfriend didn't really like it but he is picky.
11/06/2010
I made it exactly as written and it was style also much cumin. Gustation like chili, non what we wanted.
12/20/2010
I am ane of the to the lowest degree picky eaters out there, and I was so excited to make this because of the ingredients, but it was simply awful. An excellent recipe! Quick, easy and tasty. I use this recipe every bit a base without much variance. I like to double nearly ingredients, except for the cumin. I also add either fresh or canned stewed tomatoes. We eat it with corn bread. A definite hitting in my firm!

This was sooo delicious! But I did alter it up a little bit. I used basis turkey instead of the beef. I added 4 carrots, ii celery, and 1 cup chopped eggplant. I can of rotel tomatoes. I omitted the kidney beans. The base of the recipe I kept the same. My husband does not similar cabbage and he wanted nix to exercise with this soup... that is until he had a seize with teeth of mine. He said information technology was really good. :)

I've made this twice now. Love the season (the cumin is a peachy addition) and love that it is high nutrition and low fat. I did make one change in that bouillon cubes all seem to have MSG in them and nosotros are fugitive that. So I but added water and a bit of extra bounding main salt

To accept more chili taste, I added a can of diced seasoned tomatoes, iv additional cups of beef broth. Not sure, simply plan to replace my crock pot considering recipe was as well full-bodied by the tomato plant sauce; recommend diced tomatoes exist used instead.

I had bought a large head of cabbage at a farmer's market place and was looking for a soup recipe that was a scrap "different", and as well healthy. The start time I make a recipe from this site, I like to make information technology exactly as it appears so I can charge per unit information technology appropriately. My husband was definitely worried considering he didn't think the recipe sounded good; I, however, had high hopes because of all the great reviews (and knowing that nosotros both love cabbage). The recipe did non disappoint, and I'thou happy to say fifty-fifty my skeptical husband loved this soup! We both similar spicy dishes, so in one case in our bowls we both added some hot sauce just to add some kick. As others have stated, information technology did remind united states of america a niggling of chili, just that's okay - it'southward to be expected with basis beef, kidney beans and tomato sauce! The cabbage was wonderful and without the cumin I don't think the recipe would be almost as delicious. I'll definitely exist making this once again!
